First little funny “incident” on the trip: Turns out that I was sitting in the first class compartment all the way through Hungary and did not even know it! The Hungarian train conducted never said a word, but the Croatian conducter, while very polite, was firm about the fact that I needed to move. Fortunatly, I did not have to go far since a 2nd class compartment was in the same car only a few feet away. Sadly, my 2nd class seat is pretty much exactly the same as the 1st class!
