I’m in Ljubljana now and I am totally enchanted by this city. I don’t think I could give a higher recommendation to another European city, of which I have traveled to many. Moscow, Berlin, Amsterdam, London, Paris, Rome, Bratislava, Prague, Barcelona, Brussels, Dublin, Budapest – all have so much to offer, but nothing quite pulls it all together for me like Ljubljana is for me. The river is great, the architecture in the center is ‘perfect,’ it’s a university town and a live with students, shopping streets for the young and hip as well as the old and moneyed, cafes, bars, shops, markets, alley ways, castle hills … it does not stop. I have been utterly floored by what I am discovering here.
Well, as the title of this post would indicate I am feeling a certain lack of time! I have a backlog of several days worth of photos and I continue to shoot more and more; I have an idea for one of my first travel stories about the interplay which I witnessed between modern and traditional culture, specifically with food (I am still working on the story angle but it has to do with roasting chestnuts!); I’ve got some great photos from a private little WWII museum that I would like to do a photo-essay on; and another series that I will start work on tonight about “The Erased” people in Slovenia.
It’s a good thing I have decided to hold-up here for a few days. I think it will be about a week or so, so hold onto your hats …
